About us

Having transparency & integrity in discussing your needs at work.
First opened in July 2015, and growing gradually ever since, Rat Engineering is the vision of founder Pete Fornasier. Pete first learnt the tools of the trade by completing a fitting and machining apprenticeship before taking on a broad variety of experiences in Western Queensland. He really has done it all from working on sheep and cattle properties (where he developed a passion for supporting the grazing industry), driving road trains, and utilising his skillset by being the engineering instructor at the Longreach Pastoral College. Pete also gained his boilermaking qualifications through recognition of prior learning.

Combining all these diverse experiences and qualifications, Pete was inspired to open his own engineering shop in Hughenden. Rat Engineering was created to support the Flinders Shire businesses through steel and industrial supplies – as well as services including welding, fabrication, machining, general repairs and maintenance.

Over the last few years, Rat Engineering has increased productivity by the addition of multiple new machines. Steel and industrial supplies are well stocked to service the general public and various local businesses and projects.

While Rat Engineering continues to innovate and change to suit our current times, the company’s values will always remain the same. Rat Engineering strives to provide the best quality and services – and continues to offer honest and open feedback to suit each customer’s requirements and personal goals.

Rat Engineering is excited to see what the future holds, but not as much as we are to continue supporting the local grazing industry and local Flinders Shire businesses.
